Juanita's Polynesian Delights: Reviews & Ratings
Happened upon this place by complete accident and will definitely be going back again. Food was delicious with some great flavors! I hadn’t had much of what was offered so she loaded up my container to try it all! Arrived with 11 minutes before closing (not realizing the time) and the owner was quick still serve me with a massive smile! I definitely will be back, especially for the fresh squeezed juice she mentioned!
Found this place browsing Google for lunch spots in Newark and am I glad I did. The food was seriously delicious - we tried a bit of everything: very tender lamb, sausage, turkey tail (new to me, and delightful), corned beef, taro, green bananas, and some greens with coconut milk (forgot their name). It was all very good, but my favorites were the desserts - one was a banana and coconut milk sort of pudding with tapioca, and I could probably eat a small bucket it was so good. The other was a cocoa rice that has one of the most incredible cocoa flavors I've ever had - more of an almost fruity cocoa flavor, but still very much cocoa. Delightful. Will certainly be back! Very reasonable prices and great service.
What can I say, the food is obviously amazing. The turkey tails are one of the most delicious food I have ever had. The seasoning/sauce is perfect. The fat melts in your mouth like butter. They also have lamb ribs and corned beef which were also great. A true hole in the wall spot. Don’t expect to go on a date here. Nothing fancy. Take your food and enjoy it at home. They do have chairs and tables when you just can’t wait to dig in. Not the best looking photo but in here is the turkey tail mentioned earlier, ribs, corned beef, taro leaves, yams and banana. They usually have rice but the meats still paired well with the yams. Juanita and her husband are sweet. They always throw a little something in my plate ever since I’ve been going more recently. I guess they notices that I’m a regular now lol.
Juanita is very kind and warm. She gave us huge portions, and they were absolutely delicious. Please stop by if you haven't had Samoan food.
I went there on Saturday September 5th, this time ordered the Taro Leaves, Turkey Tail, Pork Sausages and Chop Suey; all of the above was Super Excellent and Delicious, reminded me of the two years that I lived in Hawaii. I Love Juanita's Polynesian Delights!
Ok 1st off my photos do a great disservice to the food. I let my curiosity get the best of me. My 1st time ever having Polynesian food. The super sweet lady who I want to call Grams.(Grandma) was the sweetest person I've encountered in a while. Her lvl of patience with my questions and mispronouncing of some of the dishes was above board. She gave me samples of just about everything. To be honest thats part of the reason my eyes were bigger than my stomach The food 5/5 Lamb, corned beef, and turkey tail was tender, and flavorful basically delicious. The Taros leaves were so good. I didn't even know turkey tail was a thing. But hot dang it was good. I definitely have to go back with some self control.
A great go-to for a fast and flavorful meal. It was my first time to try Polynesian food. The restaurant was clean and the owner was friendly. The food was delicious, affordable, and ready to go. The flavors were unique. Some dishes are interestingly offering a flavor close to Chinese food. All the food were well prepared.
Quick and friendly service, and delicious filling food. The only Polynesian cuisine I’ve had before is Hawaiian food, which is pretty different. I tried some of everything, turkey tail, taro leaves, chop suey, corned beef, lamb, and taro root. It all tasted pretty good, but I’d have to say my favorite was the corned beef. The lamb was also really good, and paired really well with the taro root. Unfortunately they didn’t have any bread when I went, so I wasn’t able to try that. Price is pretty reasonable, you basically pick what you want, they put it in a container. They then put it on a scale and you pay based on the weight.
